EcuTek Press Release

Ecutek are pleased to announce the launch of the full editing and programming software suite for the current Mitsubishi Diesel 2.5 and 3.2 litre 4 cylinder engined vehicle ECUs.

These vehicles are variously named L200 or Triton and Shogun or Pajero in different markets around the world.

L200 - Triton 2.5 and 3.2 models range from 2005 to current and Shogun - Pajero models are supported from 2006 with the introduction of the Di-DC Direct Injection Common rail engines. In 2008 the Shogun  - Pajero model is additionally fitted with the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). This model is also supported.

As our tuning partners have come to expect from EcuTeK, this is a world first. Never before have you been able to map a diesel engine in this way using the factory ECU.

We offer full control of over 20 maps that are required to alter the Injection Quantity, Fuel Rail Pressure, Injection Timing and numerous fuel, boost and smoke limit maps.

The software comes with example files which are extremely valuable and have been the subject of hundreds of hours of development testing at our base. We expect you to be able to use these files as good examples to base your tuning on.

The software also features the ability to read and clear all DTCs.

Currently we support 22 different ROM files from around the world.

Another highly valuable part of this product is our detailed explanations of the maps and also the tuning methods that we have employed. For those tuners with limited diesel tuning experience we offer the product that you need to help you understand, what is becoming a very important sector of the tuning industry.

Diesel injection systems are now very complex and like their petrol equivalents, require mapping of the factory data. Due to the amount of closed loop checks and air flow and smoke limits , it is no longer possible to fit the cheap "smoke boxes" which fool the ECU into jacking up the fuel pressure.

Mitsubishi in Europe fit a sophisticated smoke box called a Rallitronic unit. Because of the lack of closed loop control, this unit give very strange and intermittent power increases. (With the Rallitronic, very often the ECU senses that it is trying to inject too much fuel, fearing that the engine will smoke, it shuts down the injection quantity to below standard and the power drops significantly). However in the attached graph you can see that by comparing a working Rallitronic equipped 2.5 engine with an EcuTeK mapped one we can offer great improvements in power and torque over a much wider rev band.

Examples of maps that are required to be altered to improve the performance are:

  • Desired Torque
  • Maximum Torque
  • Maximum Injection Quantity
  • Injection Open Time
  • In addition we have maps such as:
    • Smoke Limit
    • Per Gear Torque Reduction
    • Fuel Injection Interval Pilot
    • Fuel Injection Start Angle
    • Injection Start Throttle Compensation.
    • Desired Fuel Pressure
    • Boost Limit

You can see that the diesel "smoke box"  is as useful for diesel turbo tuning as the bleed valve and electronic boost clamp is for Subaru and Mitsubishi Petrol turbo tuning.

We have seen dramatic power and torque improvements from both the 2.5 and the 3.2 and also recorded improved fuel consumption.

Figures we have are:

  • For the 2.5 Di-DC: 136PS goes to 175PS with torque increases from 314Nm to 390Nm
  • For the 3.2 Di-DC: 158PS goes to 200PS with torque increasing from 360Nm to 430Nm

Attached are some performance figures that we have tested using GPS timing showing that the 0-100kmh sprint is reduced by 15% and nearly 2 seconds.

Meaning significantly faster tuning, safer performance with a lower cost price to you than smoke boxes.

Best regards,

Your team at EcuteK
