I hope this is in the right area for discussion. I have just bought a Daihatsu Pyzar which after needing the tappets adjusted found that the exhaust tappets have seized. Because the rocker cover had to come off we also found that there is a lot of sludge though the engine which has to be cleaned out. (I have the service history and it has been serviced every 6 months so dont know why its happened)I was told that the rocker gear has to come out and be acid washed to hopefully shift the seized exhaust tappets and also because of the sludge the engine needs to be flushed. I am having conflicting reports that by getting the engine flushed it could pose more problems if not done properly. My problem is what should I do and who is the best people to go to so it is fixed correctly???
I hope someone can help me with this.
Tks Del.

By way of a constructive-ish answer, I think mechanics are losing the ability to *fix* engines. Our throwaway society dictates buying replacement parts new or used and swapping them for the damaged component. Repair or reconditioning is fading as a skill. I wouldn't be surprised if the solution offered to you was along the lines of buying a new/second hand engine and swapping it in. Labour prices have risen to the point where a quicker solution involving buying a new part is often more economical than fixing an existing one. [/rant]

True, when the old Cressida blew a head gasket and shat itself by running out of water and overheating, it worked out cheaper to get a reconditioned replacement engine than getting the existing one fixed. Less chance of something going wrong too.
