Liberty 06 2.5i wagon - clunky front end

Hi,

when I reverse off the ramp type gutter at the end of my drive, there is a pronounced clunk in the front end. The wheels go of the gutter at different points due to the angle of the driveway.
Has anyone else had such a noise develop and if so what is the cure?
My car has done 45000km.
It almost sounds like the steering rack is coming loose from the firewall - that sort of a clunk, but I cant feel anything through the steering wheel.

Its going in for a service soon but just thought Id ask the question here first.

At service ask them to check to torque on the nut on the strut tops. Some of the Bilstein models have become loose making a clunking noise? Other things to check are universal joints and Lower control arm bushes, and as mentioned, rack rattle.
